Spain vs Italy Review

Well as we know. Final score 1-1.

Spain started off with, well part Barca part Madrid. Five players from Barcelona, four from Madrid, Silva from Manchester City and Alba. No clear forwards, with six midfielders, making Fabregas their sole striker. I'm not sure if Del Bosque learnt any lessons from Pep Guardiola considering how Barcelona played, especially in the Champion's League Semi-Final.

For Italy, starting off with Balotelli and Cassano. Not the best Italian strike force that anyone has seen. Buffon with experience in goal, performing extremely well for the Italians, keeping the Spaniards at bay. Another veteran, Pirlo, holding the midfield well.

Honestly, the first half was quite a bore. A lot of people were expecting a big thriller with lots of attacks, lots of shots at goal, lots of drama. Instead I felt that Spain played exactly like Barcelona. That happens when your whole midfield's from Barcelona.

In the start of the second half though, things picked up. Bringing Di Natale on for Balotelli was the best substitution I've seen so far in the tournament. He made an instant impact when he received Pirlo's through ball and placed it around Casillas beautifully, giving Italy the lead. There minutes later however, Spain hit back with Fabregas with a perfectly timed left footer in front of the box. Buffon had no chance.

Later on, Torres was eventually brought on to help push the attack for Spain. But it didn't work. He did have a few chances but Buffon as well as the sturdy Italian defense were there on every attempt to keep him at bay. Game eventually ended in a stalemate as the game slowed down again in the last few minutes.

My point of view, the big teams here are being cautious about their game, not daring to take risks to make sure they win the group stage. The big teams have been playing very safe. For example, Netherlands. They're one of the favorites in the tournament. But after last night's disastrous performance in Ukraine, they just might go out in the group stages. Maybe because the players are burnt out or maybe Robben & co. are still dwelling over their Champions League final loss. The same can be said with Spain, who played a very well controlled game I must say. But that would be of no use if you can't make the goals count. These teams need to pick themselves up for the next games, or else it's an early flight back home.

I wouldn't mind seeing a repeat of the 2004 European Championships though. Nothing like an underdog champion story.

Kolarov linked with Inter

Aleksander Kolarov is being linked to £12 million summer move to Inter Milan. The 26-year-old lost his place to the Frenchman in the second half of the last campaign and was frustrated by his lack of starting opportunities. The Serbian international played with Lazio before completing  £17 million deal to Manchester City. But his current wages could be a problem for Inter. There is also rumours that there will possible swap deal plus cash involving Wesley Sniejder even though Manchester City is not interested with the Dutch midfielder.

Messi Storms Three Past Brazil

Messi grabbing a hatrick, virtually beats Brazil single handedly in a 4-3 thriller.

Messi, scoring three of the four goals for Argentina, savoured the triumph of their win despite it being a non-competitive match. Brazil started off with a 1-0 lead coming from Romulo. But by the end of the first half, Messi came bac with two goals to but the Argentines in the lead 2-1.

Brazil came back in the second half with two goals from dos Santos Oscar and Hulk, but the lead just lasted four mins as Fernandez equalized in the 76th minute. Messi then scored the winner in the 85th minute, smashing the shot into the top right corner.

The match however ended on a sour note as Marcelo and Lavezzi, who only came on in the second half, were sent of for the confrontation between the pair.

I actually wonder how long it'll be before Brazil get back to their glory days of at least the 2002 World Cup. Honestly, I've been missing the Brazilian flair that every football enthusiast loves. Wonder if hat da will ever come.

History on the EURO Trophy

Started on the year 1960, previously the UEFA European Football Championship is known as the UEFA European Nations Cup. Only after 1968 is it changed to the current name.Held every fours year,Germany has been the most succesful team with 3 title out of 13 tournament held of these 52 years. The idea for a pan-European football tournament was first proposed by the French Football Federations;s Henri Delaunay in 1927. In honour of Delaunay, the trophy awarded to the champions is named after him.

The Henri Delaunay Trophy

Since the first tournament it has been awarded to the winning team for them to keep for four years, until the next tournament. The trophy, which is made of sterling silver, now weighs 8 kilograms (18 lb) and is 60 centimetres (24 in) tall. A small figure juggling a ball on the back of the original was removed, as was the marble plinth. The silver base of the trophy had to be enlarged to make it stable. The names of the winning countries that had appeared on the plinth have now been engraved on the back of the troph

Germany vs Portugal

In my opinion, a pretty boring game between the Germans and the Portugese. Both started off holding their own in the first half. I guess you would've expected it as the first game for both teams.
The Germans maintained with a slight edge in possession. The Portugese team have only themselves to blame after wasting 11 corners, not converting one.

Pepe had a chance midway through the second half with a loose ball in front of goal, but the crossbar came to save the Germans as Pepe's shot hit the crossbar and bouncing off the line. Cristiano Ronaldo was indecisive, felt out of place, only able to get 4 shots at goal.

Mario Gomez managed to snatch the winner for Germany on the 72nd minute with a beautiful header across goal, beating the keeper. The German defense keeping steady and managing every shot at goal easily. Neuer made decisive saves for the Germans as well, keeping the lead with the Germans.

Despite the goal, felt that the game was slightly boring with many wasted chances by both sides. Like I said earlier, both teams were being cautious since it was the first game of the tournament for both teams. Expected much more, for example something similar to the Russia versus Czech game last night.

Final Score. Germany 1 Portugal 0.

Dzeko Heading to Allianz Arena

The Manchester City striker could be heading to Bayern Munich according to source from German. The Bosnian cost £27million from Wolfsburg 18 months ago.It seem Bayern will table £20million for Dzeko. He only  manage to score  16 goals out of 45 appearance for the blue side of Manchester.Bayern Munich could use Thomas Muller to weight down the price tag.
